About the Project

In Fall 2010, my sister Carol and I took a trip up north to attend our Aunt Marie's Funeral Mass at St. John Catholic Church in Pelican Lake. Marie, Rilla & John Young's oldest daughter, had passed away that January in New Mexico. Her youngest sister, our mother Priscilla, had died several months later, passing away at the end of May. So this trip represented an opportunity not only to pay our respects to our dear aunt, her daughters and granddaughters, but to revisit a place filled with memories of our own mother, a place that both she and we loved.

The day after Marie's funeral, Carol and I revisited the Resthaven Resort site, bare except for some trees, a beautiful pink hydrangea, and an old cement staircase, which once led guests from the old lodge to the tennis courts below.

I feel a deep affection for this special place, and for all my cousins with whom I share this bond, even those I do not often see (or have never met). This Web site represents my desire to stay connected with both, and to provide a place where Rilla and John's descendants might all share and access photos, family history, and memories.
